United Kingdom Entry Requirements

If you’re planning to join us in-person in the United Kingdom for Coliving Conference 2026, it’s important to understand the latest entry requirements. The United Kingdom has recently introduced a new system for many travelers called the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for a smooth arrival.
2026

What is an ETA?

An Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a digital permission required to travel to the United Kingdom for short stays. It is not a visa, but a pre-travel authorisation - similar to systems used in countries like the United States (ESTA).

Who Needs an ETA?

You will likely need an ETA if:

  • You are from a country that does not require a visa to enter the United Kingdom for short stays
  • You are visiting for tourism, business, or events - including conferences like ours!
  • Your stay is less than 6 months

⚠️ If you already need a visa to enter the United Kingdom, the ETA does not apply - you must go through the standard visa process.

Cost

The ETA costs approximately £20 per person, and payment is made online during the application process.

Processing Time

Most applications are processed within 3 days. However, we strongly recommend applying at least 2-3 weeks in advance to avoid any last-minute issues

Validity

  • Your ETA is valid for 2 years, or until your passport expires (whichever comes first)
  • You can use it for multiple visits during that time
  • Each stay can be up to 6 months

How to Apply

You can apply easily online via the official United Kingdom government website or mobile app. The process typically requires:

  • A valid passport
  • Basic personal  information
  • A short security questionnaire
  • Payment of the application fee

When you apply, you’ll need to upload or take photos of the face of the person applying.

At the Border

Once approved:

  • Your ETA is digitally linked to your passport
  • There’s no need to print anything
  • You’ll still go through standard United Kingdom border checks on arrival

Important Reminders

  • Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay
  • Approval of an ETA does not guarantee entry - border officials make the final decision
  • Always check your specific country’s requirements before traveling, as rules may change
